Project Propsal

1st Draft

After completing previous projects on the foundation course, I have decided to follow the path of Graphic Design. The previous projects have helped me push myself out of my comfort zone and taught me how to problem solve. I have learnt new methods of producing work and the importance of time keeping.
For my final major project I would like to look at the concepts of identity, ecology, earth and time from Unit 5. I want to develop these three concepts further and come up with a final piece for my exhibition threw experimenting and development. I will be showing my development in a A3 sketchbook filled with research, thoughts, ideas and the journey from initial idea to final piece.
I decided to go with these concepts because, I enjoyed identity and I haven’t yet looked at ecology and time. So I feel this is my opportunity to explore these concepts.

For identity, I would like to look at how we identify objects, animals and humans. I would also I like to look at what properties and features they have which helps to identify what is there. For example DNA, socialisation and personality could help identify a human. For humans, eyes and finger prints are a very effective way of identifying one person from another. Eyes can also tell a lot about how a person is feeling along with other facial expressions.
I would like to look at ecology and earth by looking at different aspects of the subject such as, global warming and environmental changes. How I would link this to identity is by researching how actions of humans have consequence that we don’t necessarily realise. I want to see how our decisions effect ecology. I would also like to see how the world has changed over the last few decades and try to incorporate this into my work. I will be looking at city and landscape along with rural scenery as well.
The concept of time can be seen in different ways. I could look into how all sorts of things have changed over time such as technology and socialisation. I could look at the proses of aging in humans starting from a new born baby to the development of a retired person.
I will be evaluating my work by comparing it to my proposal throughout the whole of the development process and, I will also getting tutor feel back along with peer assessment.
My first form of evaluation will be my presentation to my class of what I would like to do. At the end of the presentation I will be getting feedback from my peers on ways to improve and questions on what I am going to do and about my presentation.
The last from of evaluation will be my recorded video presentation of me in front of my exhibition work. In this presentation I will be talking about how I found this project, problems I came across and anything else I feel like I need to discuss. I will also be doing a written evaluation which will be placed in my book, along with some photographs of my exhibition display.

2nd Draft

After completing previous projects on the foundation course, I have decided to follow the path of Graphic Design. The previous projects have helped me push myself out of my comfort zone and taught me how to problem solve. I have learnt new methods of producing work and the importance of time keeping.
For my final major project I would like to look at the concept of identity from Unit 5. I want to develop this concepts further and come up with a final piece for my exhibition threw experimenting and development. I will be showing my development in A3 sketchbooks filled with research, thoughts, ideas and the journey from initial idea to final piece. Alongside my sketchbook I will be writing a reflective journal, minimum of 10 A1 sheets and a A4 research folder.
I have decided to go with this concepts because, I enjoyed identity and I would love to look into this further. So I feel this is my opportunity to explore the concept.
I will gather primary and secondary research that links to identity. Identity is an incredibly broad subject and I would like to explore as many aspects that I can including socialisation, personality, birth signs and other aspects. I would also like to look at identifying people and how this can be done in various ways such as eyes and finger prints. These can be very effective ways of identifying one person from another. Eyes can also tell a lot about how a person is feeling along with other facial expressions.
My main focus will be based around society and mass media. I want to look at how media can have an effect on body image and self-esteem. Media contains images of people that are usually photoshopped and transformed to an unachievable image, this then can make people feel self-conscious because they cannot achieve the ‘perfect’ body. But in reality, the model probably doesn’t look like the photoshopped finished image. I also want to look at how people cover up their true feelings, morals and characterises to fit in ‘the crowd’.
How I will present this in my final major project is a series of posters which will link together and include typography. I would like to be able to capture the concept of identity in a distinctive way and get a strong message cross.
